In day four of our journey through Proverbs, Chris Muiña unpacks a verse that the wisest man on earth prefaced with "above all else" — and when Solomon says above all else, it's time to pay attention. Everything flows from your heart: your thoughts, your attitude, your decisions, your actions. Many men focus on changing behavior while ignoring what's feeding that behavior, but God always starts at the source. The word "guard" is a military term, the same root as a watchman on a tower. So what are you watching? What voices are influencing you? What habits are shaping your thinking? The things you constantly allow in will eventually shape who you become.
Verse of the Day

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives, they prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_00Good morning and welcome back to the Men's Morning Devotional. My name is Chris Muinya, and I am going through the book of Proverbs with you. So this week we're covering starting on Monday, Proverbs 1, and ending on Proverbs chapter 5 on Friday. So today we are in Proverbs chapter 4 on this Thursday morning. I encourage you to share this with your friends if it is blessing you already. But today we're talking about something that every man battles with. Whether he realizes it or not, it's the condition of his heart. So let's get into it. What controls your heart will eventually control your life. Okay, that's a powerful thing to say. The scripture is Proverbs chapter 4, verse 23. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. A very straightforward and simple verse, but powerful nonetheless. Solomon says, Above all else. Now let me tell you, when the wisest man on earth tells you above all else, that's like saying, Hey guys, if you don't get anything that I say, but this one thing, okay, that's what he's essentially saying. He's he's starting off this verse with that. This better get your attention. Why? Because everything flows from our heart. Our thoughts, our attitude, our decisions, our actions are all connected to what we're allowing into our hearts. Many men focus on changing behavior, right? Behavior modifications, while ignoring what is feeding that behavior. But God always starts at the source, right? And the source in this case is our heart. And of course, I hope you understand, when he says your heart, he means your emotions, your mind, what you're thinking, your heart, right? That's that's kind of like it's not necessarily the physical muscle in your chest. What are you watching? What voices are influencing you? What habits are shaping your thinking? The things we constantly allow into our lives will eventually shape who we become. A wise man guards his heart because he understands that his future is connected to it. If you want different results, start by examining what you're allowing in. Now, when I read something that starts with above all else, that gets my attention, like I already said, then he follows it up with guard your heart. Now that word guard, it's a it's a military term, it's a tactical word. And it has the same root as a watchman on a tower. Okay, to really like be careful, observe, constantly look after. Now, Solomon is shouting at us to protect our heart, our emotions, our mind from intrusive thoughts, from bitterness, from anything that will draw us away from the Lord, because he knows that everything in our life flows from the state of our hearts. So guard it. Guard it like if it's the most important thing. So your man of challenge for today is to take inventory of what's feeding your heart right now. Really do a self-check. Try to think, just sit in silence and try to think, what is coming in? What what radio, what podcasts am I listening to, what songs am I listening to? What shows am I watching? What friends am I allowing speaking into my life? Uh, maybe even what uh YouTube pastors you're listening to, anything like that that is feeding your heart, watch out. I'm not saying it's all bad, but just take inventory. Above all else, guard your heart. And remove any unhealthy influence and replace it with something that draws you closer to God. Identify unhealthy influences. If you can't, then pray and ask God to show you what those could be. So, in closing, Father God, help me guard my heart and fill my mind with things that honor you. Shape me into the man you've called me to be. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
